Intervention

What is an intervention?

Many people do not know what an intervention is.

An intervention is an orchestrated attempt by one or more people, usually family and friends and often a professional interventionist, to get a loved one to seek professional help for their drug or alcohol addiction.

When does an intervention need to be done?

Many people believe that a person needs to hit “rock bottom” before any type of treatment can be considered. This is not the case. An intervention can be done at any time on any person. At Narconon Arrowhead, we believe that a person can be saved long before they hit “rock bottom” with an intervention. An intervention needs to be done when the family has not been successful in getting their loved one to seek professional help.

Why an intervention specialist?

An intervention specialist is a professional who is trained to get people who are suffering from drug or alcohol addiction to seek professional help, even when they are unwilling to do so. As a family member or loved one of the addict, you will know more about the addict’s life than the interventionist. However, an intervention specialist is the expert in getting your loved one to see that they need help. You will work closely together to accomplish the goal of the getting your loved one help.  Together, you and the interventionist know that the addict needs help, know about the addict’s life, and know what can be done to get the addict to recognize that he/she needs help, and ultimately gets help.

What does an intervention entail?

The conventional intervention will have family, friends and a professional interventionist who meet prior to conducting the intervention either by phone or face to face. The intervention specialist will assess the situation of the addict and will let the family know what the best procedure is for their loved one. In some cases, the intervention specialist will meet with the addict alone, but in most cases all parties involved will meet with the addict.
